Assessing Damage and Recovery Needs in Bhutan after Sikkim Earthquake

Sikkim earthquake on September 18, 2011 affected India, Nepal and Bhutan causing significant losses. At request of the Royal Government of Bhutan to UN for carrying out the assessment, Vivek Rawal from ‘People in Centre’ Consulting led Joint Rapid Assessment mission of RGoB, UN and the World Bank to assess the damage losses and recovery needs. An inter-disciplinary team including UNDP-BCPR, UNOCHA, UNDP Bhutan, World Bank, various ministries and departments of Government of Bhutan undertook the assessment in first two weeks of October 2011.
