After 6.0M earthquake struck Eastern Afghanistan on 31st August 2025, causing death of more than 2200 persons and destroying more than 8000 houses and other infrastructure. A joint rapid recovery needs assessment was conducted by the UN agencies, the World Bank, ADB and EU.The housing sector damage and needs assessment was led by Vivek Rawal (PiC) on behalf of UNDP and was supported by UN-Habitat and IOM. Estimating damage and loss of US$ 41 million, the recovery needs were estimated around US$55 million. The report is available for download here
