Spatial Patterns of Decentralized Water Harvesting and Agrarian Growth in Saurashtra

‘People in Centre’ Consulting collaborated with Shilp Verma of IWMI, Anand to undertake research on understanding impact of decentralized water harvesting structures particularly check dams and recharge wells on agriculture output. The study was based on taluka level data of the Saurashtra region and looked into parameters like i)capacity of water harvesting structures built by various departments under different schemes; ii) annual rainfall; iii) land use; iv) crops and cropping patterns; v) surface and groundwater irrigated area ; and vi) actual irrigation from medium and minor irrigation systems. The preliminary draft of the study has been completed.
