Taking Vernacular Forward: Technical Guidelines for Resilient House Construction, Repairs and Retrofitting in Afghanistan

People in Centre collaborated with UNDP to develop technical guidelines for improving disaster resilience of vernacular earthen houses built with adobe and cob walls and domical vault roofs. These technical guidelines contributed in the owner driven reconstruction supported and facilitated by UNDP. People in Centre continued technical support during the reconstruction. About 200 houses were constructed in Chahak village and 350 houses were constructed in Kushk. Also about 50 houses were repaired and retrofitted.
