Rushank Mehta, with Dr. Uma Rani carried out a study of settlement of Sorainagar in Vasna to understand the housing status of the poor. The main objective was to know the process of development of such settlements, identify the investments made by the poor and the authorities in such settlements. These investments are often lost when people are evacuated or resettled elsewhere. The study also looked at the aspects of further investment to upgrade the settlement to an acceptable living standard, with all basic amenities and infrastructure.
