After the June 2002 Earthquake in Afghanistan, a set of technical guidelines for the post-earthquake owner-driven reconstruction, repair, and retrofitting of vernacular houses was prepared to facilitate housing recovery of the affected communities. The guidelines in this document aim to enable communities to take ownership of their housing process and rebuild their homes and communities in a hazard-safe and sustainable way.
