Supporting UNDP in the facilitation of Owner-driven Housing Reconstruction after the 2022 Afghanistan Earthquake

Wide-spread damage was caused by the June 2022 earthquake in Afghanistan, particularly in the provinces of Khost and Paktika. ‘People in Centre’ and UNDP collaborated to depute Vivek Rawal as housing adviser for instituting the owner-driven reconstruction program. In four villages – Kala in Spera district (Khost), Alamshir khail and Gafoor khail in Barmal district (Paktika) and Noorma khan in Giyan district (Paktika) , more than 150 house owners are facilitated to construct their own houses using their own local materials and artisans. PiC is also building capacities of UNDP partners – CARE, ActionAid and Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, to provide on-site technical advice and training to the house owners and artisans.
